11/29 - Welcome back!

We hope you all had a very relaxing and enjoyable holiday break. While you were gone, we used the time to complete the network virus disinfection process. We are now safe, secure, and without any viruses on the core infrastructure equipment. There are still a handful of machines that need some windows updates before they will be completely up to par, but we are working through those over the next few weeks. In addition to the cleaning of the servers and securing of the known infected machines, we also created a new "landing page" to help users on-campus navigate to more pertinent information faster. We call it "my calhoun", and you can find it at: On this site, we will publish links for labs, email, district websites and other resources as we build on the foundation that is being set during our updates and transitions. If you would like to see anything added to "My Calhoun", or if you have any suggestions on how to make it better, please feel free to let us know. The goal here is to create a very fast, very reliable start page that allows all users (staff and students) to navigate quickly and efficiently to anything they may need on the computer networks.

Also during the break, we began tweaking the desktop profiles for students. Soon the ES and MS/HS campuses will be separated so more relevant desktop icons can be published to the computers at each building. This requires a very thorough inventory to be completed, and we will begin that process next week. Once the winter break comes around, we will use the time to complete the desktop environment enhancements so when you return in 2011 your students will have an easier time getting to the resources they need. All in all, we are progressing nicely toward a very reliable, robust system that is manageable and user friendly.

We thank you all for your time and patience. We are starting to turn some corners and the benefits of all the hard work will soon be realized. Again thank you, and welcome back!
